Contents  SEOUL, Nov. 30 (Yonhap) -- The state-run Korea Electric Corp. (KEPCO) said Thursday it will push to build electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in the Dominican Republic, a project worth US$30 million.

The KEPCO signed a memorandum of understanding with the Dominican Republic's National Energy Commission (CNE) in Santo Domingo, the capital city of the Caribbean nation, on establishing the EV charging infrastructure.

The Caribbean island government expects EV stations to support rising demand for the eco-friendly vehicles in the country. The nation is 265 kilometers at its widest point, and most of it is reachable with a fully charged vehicle.

The Korean firm said it will establish 160 EV charging stations in three cities and collaborate with local communities in the renewable energy sector.

This is KEPCO's second project to build EV infrastructure in Latin America, following another in Ecuador.
